I trained as an occupational therapist following a degree in psychology and found that the holistic, client centred approach fitted well with my personal beliefs. Crucially, I believe that what we do, how we do it and how this makes us feel is vitally important to our sense of identity, physical and mental health and our emotional wellbeing.

For a number of years I worked in the Leeds and York Primary Foundation Trust providing group and individual occupational therapy for people experiencing mental health difficulties. Although I enjoyed my work, I found that with three children, balancing the demands of family life and working life was logistically difficult!

So, for a while I chose to focus on family life but missed the feeling of contributing positively to peoples health and wellbeing. That sense of wanting to help people has led me to set up Kate Binnington Occupational Therapy.

I think that occupational therapy really works. It helps you to make practical and impactful changes that give you better health and wellbeing.

I am a member of the Health Professions Council and the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.

By thinking about our day to day habits and routines, we can find the opportunity for change. By exploring the possibility of change, we can find new ways of being and improved quality of life.
